Sloth Spotting and a Little Research

A Sloth! Yes, A sloth! Crossing our driveway. It was looking for a new tree to climb. It was only 2 feet away from us, and we could easily see it's long body as it stretched itself to climb. Along with the white-faced monkey shenanigans, this is one of our favorite memories of Costa Rica.

The following day, Ela, on her own initiative, started her own sloth research and poster.

While Ela did all the research and planned out the spacing on the poster, I helped nicely write the facts on the poster. If you look closely, I made a couple of mistakes, but we didn't have any white-out.

Here are 6 things she learned about sloths:

1. All Sloth have 3 toes.

We think we saw a two-toed sloth, but we're not positive.

3. The Feces Fact

It's likely the sloth we spotted had just used the bathroom.

4. Sloths are not slow everywhere. 

We never saw one in the water. That would have been neat.

My mother was constantly telling Ela to bring home a sloth. Well, this is about as good as it gets for her.

Sometimes I feel like we're slacking on the homeschool front. Then, Ela does something like this, and I feel like it's working. I'm proud of her efforts. She taught me more than I knew about sloths, and hopefully you learned something too.
